I didn't find the code when I searched online so I'm not sure what it means. One of the things IHM does is provides a failure output code which can. For the Seagate, the Smart Test was fine but the Short Generic Test failed and gave an 8 digit code. Its pretty much a case-by-case thing where if the requirements of the drive failing meet the RMA qualifications, then it will be put through. There does not appear to be a Linux version available. SeaTools tests, while they can be helpful for pinpointing drive issues in many cases, are not necessarily a requirement for an RMA. I then downloaded and ran HDDScan, which can apparently find out the S.M.A.R.T. Seatools is a tool that can be used to test and diagnose internal and external harddisks manufactured by Seagate. The second (Long Generic) reported (in its words) "Long Generic - FAIL". The first one (Short Drive Self Test) passed. So I downloaded SeaTools for Windows and ran two tests. I have been slightly worried about the possibility of it going out, as I've had it for three years now and it seems to be getting a tad noisier and slower to start up lately (although that could be my imagination). ![]() ![]() I have a 1 TB Western Digital external hard drive hooked up to my computer via USB.
